These are test beads
for Moretti's opaque colors, or "Pastels" as they call them.
Again, the ones on the left are the handmade colors. The light green bead
shows another characteristic of some glasses: lustering created by a reducing
flame. This "Copper Green" bead started out all light green.
I knew from experience with other glasses containing copper that this
one would probably luster if I put it into a flame with less oxygen, so
after I was done melting and shaping it in an oxidizing flame, I turned
the oxygen level down and reheated the bead. Almost at once, the exposed
metal on the bead's surface became visible. This is a neat trick to master,
so I was very happy that I'd gotten the knack of it.
